9 Unexpected Valentine’s Day Gifts for Your Lover

9 Unexpected Valentine’s Day Gifts for Your Lover

10 Unexpected Valentine's Day Gifts for Your Lover ...
There are numerous Valentine’s Day gifts you could buy for your lover, but aren’t you tired of the same old thing? Roses, candy, the latest video game – those are all great gifts, but this year, wouldn’t you like to give something different? Whether your Valentine is a guy or a girl, there are lots of unique, unexpected Valentine’s Day gifts there for the taking (and giving!). Take a look and see if anything jumps out at you!

1. Extreme Sports

Has your lover always wanted to go hang gliding, kite boarding, or bungee jumping? The best Valentine’s Day gifts are both surprising and thoughtful. They come from the heart. If you know your boyfriend, girlfriend, partner, or spouse has always wanted to try something extreme, sign up for it. You don’t have to join in if you don’t want to, but if you take the plunge, it’ll be more romantic, don’t you think?

2. A Personalized Coupon Book

This one sounds a bit cliché, but it always goes over well. It’s also fantastic if you’re on a budget. The key is to create coupons that will appeal to your lover. For a gamer, make sure there are coupons for One Free Game night, where he or she has free time to splay out on the couch for hours of the favorite game of the day. If your partner is a true gourmand, include coupons for a night out at a restaurant or a home cooked meal – from appetizers to dessert, of course!

3. An Exciting Class

Does your partner dream of dancing lessons? Does your boyfriend want to learn how to cook? Does your wife want to learn Italian? Is there something you’ve always wanted to learn as a couple? Now’s the time – and the best part is that something like this lasts far past Valentine’s Day.

4. A Treasure Hunt

Why not put together your own Valentine’s Day treasure hunt? Scavenger hunts are fun as well. The end price can be anything you want it to be, from a romantic night to a more traditional gift. This option takes time, but you don’t have to make it enormous. It’s fun, it’s exciting, and it’s definitely unexpected!

5. Volunteering

Sometimes the best way to give something to someone is to give back others. Why not spend the day volunteering? You can visit a soup kitchen, spend time at the local LGBT shelter, or volunteer your time at an animal shelter. Helping others will bring you closer together, and those feelings, too, will last throughout the year.

6. A Couples Massage

You’ve got several options here. You can book a dual massage at the local spa, of course, and indulge in a much-needed day of relaxation. However, you can also set things up at home, and plan to give each other massages. All you need are some hot towels, some candles, some heated oil, and some soothing music.

7. A Flowering Plant

One of the reasons traditional roses and other flowers get a bad reputation around Valentine’s Day is because they die. That’s not a great message to send to someone you love! There’s an anecdote that goes around every V-Day touting lovers to give each other potatoes, because they’re much more enduring. However, they’re also potatoes. Why not try a flowering plant instead? Get your lover something that needs to be taken care of and nurtured, that flowers into something long-lasting and beautiful – just like your relationship!

8. A Promise

This option is open for interpretation. Have you been promising something to your lover? Is there something he or she wants more than anything? Maybe it’s a promise to clean the house more often, a vow to go to couples therapy, or the promise to simply spend more time together as a couple. Make that promise now – and keep it.

9. A Surprise Trip

Finally, if it’s feasible, make plans to take your lover he or she somewhere he or she has been dying to visit! Even if you can’t do it on or around Valentine’s Day, you can start planning for some point in the near future, and surprise your Valentine with the news.
